The Magic Mirror 2.0, designed and built for the jewellery chain Chow Sang Sang by global digital agency Mirum, with Intel technology and a Samsung Display Mirror OLED display panel, is on show this week at the Retail Asia Expo in Hong Kong.
The digital mirror – also a touchscreen –is mounted on a wall and shows a reflection of the customer alongside an array of necklaces. Customers tap on a necklace to ‘try’ it, and the necklace is superimposed on their reflection. This allows customers to explore Chow Sang Sang’s necklace range in a completely new and interactive way whilst improving store efficiency and increasing store traffic.
“We’re very proud to be the first major retailer to utilise this modern technology created by Mirum Hong Kong. We’re looking forward to unveiling the Magic Mirror 2.0 in our latest flagship store in Elements this week and can’t wait for our customers to try the virtual necklaces whilst standing in front of a real mirror,” said Cecilia Yim, Head of Marketing of Chong Sang Sang.
An earlier version of the Magic Mirror used a camera to capture a live image of Chow Sang Sang customers. The Magic Mirror 2.0 makes the experience more realistic by using Samsung Display’s new Mirror OLED screen, which combines a real mirror with a full interactive digital screen. The Samsung Media Player featuring Intel RealSense technology uses intuitive 3D depth sensing to accurately place the virtual necklaces around a customer’s neck. Intel RealSense technology and 3D depth sensing enables the necklace to mimic the user’s movement, moving in sync with them like a real necklace.
Win Mak, Chief Executive Officer of Mirum Hong Kong said that the agency’s aim has always been to bring technology to the masses and help clients transform their businesses digitally.
“The Magic Mirror 2.0 is a prime example of how Mirum Hong Kong is staying at the forefront of technology, utilising our partnerships and exploring opportunities to help our clients incorporate modern innovations into their business activities. This is how we help clients become pioneers of their industry,” added Mr Mak.
“At Intel, we strive to deliver the perfect, personalised shopping experience,” said Jose Avalos, worldwide director of visual retail, Retail Solutions Division, Internet of Things Group at Intel.
“Mirum Hong Kong’s Magic Mirror showcases just how Intel’s latest technologies and products can drive brand relevance and create memorable retail experiences,” he added.
Attendees of the Retail Asia Expo, which runs from June 9 – 11, can visit the Intel booth to test out the Magic Mirror 2.0 for themselves. Mirum’s Charme Table, which uses similar touchscreen technology, will also be on display giving expo goers the chance to mix and match their own digital Chow Sang Sang charm bracelets.
